is it possible

to secure natura look earliners with acrylic latex caulk, instead of hide paste. I leave the cartilage and use DP. I have been using Epo-Grip with no problems but do not care for the application.

Latex caulk has no adhesive quality, your ears would quickly drum under your process you described above. I personally don't leave the cartilage in, especially using earliners, it leaves you more susceptible to drumming...

Tom's especially right on this one

With DP, NOTHING less than a good epoxy is going to insure that you don't have some drumming. Many taxidermists tell me their ears NEVER drum, but they never watch them after they leave the shop. Wait till a guy brings his mount back in in a few years and asks you what he can do with his ballooned ears. It's MUCH easier to prevent this than it is to fix it.

George about epoxies.......................

I your opinion how does Epo-Grip, and some of the newer exopies compare to Ron Carters lock tight. I used the lock tight all the time when doing DP work. Ron also lives about 30 miles from us which made getting it easy from he and his wife Diane. Your observations? Swampfox

I hate to give an opinion on this one as I was part and parcel of getting the epoxies into the industry. (Long story, but I did the field testing for Steve at Epo-Grip).

I used Ron's Loc-Tite for years and loved it. I used to get higher than a kite mixing it in a poorly ventilated shop. It had its great points as it was surely ahead of the times when Ron started with it, but the epoxies are just better adhesives. The Loc-Tite tended to dry rubbery and because of that, it didn't "suck down" the detail in the form like the epoxie will. You can actually MAKE detail in the Epo-Grip epoxy hide paste. One of the first deer I mounted with it was intentionally OVER detailed so that it looks like a mass of folds and veins. (I have a picture someplace if you're interested.) Loc-Tite would never hold that kind of detail. Working time is similar but I get the feeling the Loc-Tite is some sort of poly versus the straight epoxy of Epo-Grip.

Sounds good to me..............

I have never used anything but dextrine based pastes and of course the lock tite. Thanks for the info.
