Hi all,
I have been working on some Nutrias for practice. I tanned 7 of them over this past week and today I pulled 2 of them out of the EZ-tan to start mounting them. As I started working on the first one( a very big one) I noticed that the skin on the hands, feet, and ears just peels off like wet tissue paper. So, now those parts are pinkish white because the outside skin fell off. Please tell me what I am doing wrong!
I skinned them soon as they were killed and salted right after.
I left the skins inside out, after a few days I put them in a pickle of Saftee acid. Them about 4-5 days later I fleshed them and 2 days later I nuetrelized them and then tanned them for 2 days. After that I took them out and started to do my mounting. I did leave the skins inside out, even the feet. It seems that moisture stayed in the paws while salting and bacteria loosened the skin from the fingers and ears. Let me know if you know what the cause of this is!?
Thanks
Charley

Did you skin the paws all the way and get all the bones and meat out ? Rick
To the second nuckle and got all of the meat and fat out. I leave the bones in so it makes it a better looking hand or foot after mounting is finished.
Formic acid.
