Is this how you treat beginers?

Submitted by Mike B on 12/31/04 at 11:46 PM. ( ) 24.196.191.7

Just found this site , thought it would be fun to check out some new technique's since I've been out of the loop for a few year's. So I logged onto a tanning forum and found rude arrogant so called profesionals treating a beginner like a idiot. If you don't like the question he asked then don't answer it. Maybe they should give a ribbon for being a __________. You guys are a joke.

Take some of your own medicine. If you don't like the replys, add your own to them. You may be returning to something you don't have a damned clue about. SOME of the "beginners" come on here like we owe them a debt and we shouldn't expect them to do a little research of the information we've provided hundreds of times before. So before you get your jock in a wad, you'd better wear our shoes awhile before you start lipping off. Your response was just as big a joke.

From a new guy

I've been looking at this site for about two weeks, haven't even done my first project, trying to get some info and maybe avoid a few mistakes by taking the time to learn first. At first I understood what the initial writer meant.
After looking through back months archives and even during the two weeks I've been following along I understand a little better about people not wanting to keep answering the same question for the hundredth time. I've also had several people that were kind enough to answer, e-mail me direct, and even offer me their phone number if I needed more details. For all of that I am grateful.
As far as "owing" anything I expect nothing. Furthermore, I assure you if I shot an animal worthy of mounting I would take it to a local professional.
Just my two cents. By the way, if you are as new as me your screen may not show the orange button of enlightenment, if I remember correctly there was some kind of button to hit to make it display.
Hope everyone has a happy, enjoyable, and safe new year.
-Greg

We thought you came here for some new technique's since you've been out of the loop for a few year's. And all you do is complain on how we treat others. Sounds like you got side tracked from what you came here to do. You are starting you're year out all wrong.

Greg sums it up nicely

Initial thoughts aside, Greg sounds like he "gets it". Sometimes the posts and answers sound rude. Taken out of context they really sound rude. But when you follow day to day, it all fits in just fine, for those who choose to allow it to. Just because someone might be new to taxidermy doesnt mean theyre new to all aspects of life and interacting with others. Hey guys, welcome to the "club", if you choose to hang in.

I cut my teeth and learned some taxidermy on my own two years before I found this site. Went through some tough lessons. Was very frustrated, but was use to working through problems since I grew up that way. The local taxidermist gave me the cold shoulder and gave me nothing to go by. This site is great as I think Glen C. said just today that the knowledge of the people here runs deep. I have learned lots from them just by reading the post and using the search button. I learned the taxi lingo before I came here and that made it is easy to learn and understand what people are talking about. But I see "newbees" post every other day " I just found this site and think that I want to be a taxidermist, can someone teach me the fastest and easiest way that wont cost me much." Or, " what is the best way, or best tan, or best this or best that. What would it do them to have the best tools to goof up their first project with? Most of us guys are holding back and not answering these dreamers, but someone is going to reply, some are tactful, some are not. The seasoned taxidermist can spot an honest beginner just by reading the question asked. I guess for a new years resolution, we could be more tactful and treat the new people with a polite- Use the search button! Please.
NOW,,, I know that new people need to start somewhere, but it would be better if they knew a little bit about the subjects that they are inquiring about first, do some research on their own first, learn the language so the pros here wont waste time drawing word pictures to people that cant understand what they are trying to convay.

Again, And Again, and Again,

I am not a taxidermist and have no aspirations to become one. However, I have several prize antler/skull sets with which I did European mounts. I found all the information I needed in this forum, both current postings and the archive, without having to post a single question. I have received high comments on my work from professional taxidermists, even to the point where they have asked me questions on my technique. I think it was George that stated "there isn't a whole lot new in this game". It's largely a matter of finding the info. I can certainly sympathize with the "old boys" (said with admiration) seeing the same questions over and over.
I, also, am amazed at the questions being posted where I, on my own, found ready answers.

MY GOD

Sounds to me alot of you people dont have enough work to do if your all busy trying to insualt one another. A beginner is just that-take it easy on people who dont know much and try to help instead.Or dont respond and leave em alone. Alot of you guys are out of line.

Well Bird, MY VOTE is that YOU ARE WRONG

This response submitted by George on 1/1/05 at 11:08 AM. ( ) 205.188.116.136

Now that the scales are balanced, let me ask you one simple question without inferring taxidermy in any way. Recall your first day at school? On an athletic team? At your significant others first family meeting? At your work? Now did you just barge in there, run your mouth, demand answers, demand QUICK answers, and then mouth off cause you didn't get them?

If you're capable of the truth, I already know the answer. So what makes YOU or anyone else think that they can just barge in here without some humility or humbleness and have US kowtow to YOUR desires? We are glad to accept beginners as long as they accept their roles and respect ours. WE are NOT beginners and we have everything YOU could ever want because of our experience level. I'd suggest you grow up before you start casting aspersions. Remember where YOU came from and where you ARE. We have a dozen regulars on here who started as rank beginners and they've matured into being like us old farts. They're no longer ROOKIES and we don't treat them as such. If YOU want to be like us (maybe not that brash) then at least feign some respect if you don't have any. After all, you COULD have to pay for what we give people like you for free. Having your tail feathers ruffled a couple times won't cost you a cent and if you actually learn something from it, you'll be lots of money ahead.

Go back up and read what Mr. T said and you'll see why he's respected for his inputs here. Right now, you seem to have a ways to go to get there.

Greg, some help with the "orange button"

This response submitted by George on 1/1/05 at 11:11 AM. ( ) 205.188.116.136

You likely got to this site through a back door. On you internet explorer, type in www.taxidermy.net/forums and that will bring you to the front page of the site. The left margin will be blue with all the categories listed there as well as the "RECENT", "SEARCH" (Orange icon) and the "CHAT".

Maybe ask for the correct words to type into the SEARCH

This response submitted by ...... on 1/1/05 at 11:44 AM. ( ) 70.178.74.104

Wordsmithing may be a term we should use for beginners.
Each item the beginner wishes to learn has several terms.
So instead of the beginner getting all pissed off because they are told to use the SEARCH BUTTON.

ASK IF YOU ARE USING THE CORRECT WORDS!
or
<<<WHAT OTHER WORDS THEIR MUCH NEEDED INFORMATION CAN BE FOUND UNDER>>>

All Live. All Real. Down in a Den of Taxidermy

This forum is the greatist. Sort out what you don,t need. Read daily and you,ll get technical know how, entertainment, chemistry, natural history, and on and on and more for free here than anyplace I know of. Just enjoy.

soory guy for these type of jerkoff,s, dealt with them myself, they are the same way in thier own shops, unless you handing them cash, you can kiss thier ass.
most of the negative guys are exactly that way.

i normally just look at and shake my head at the arrogant responces, but they are starting to really make us all look like pricks.
were not all work for cash, tax dodging, know it alls.

hang in there, there are good guys on here, but in the past 2 years they are hard to find.

have a good new year

the funniest part of all this...

This response submitted by Bill Yox on 1/1/05 at 5:31 PM. ( ) 67.138.12.13

I know for FACT that the guys in here who sound the grumpiest are guys most of you would enjoy if you ever took the time to meet them or even speak to them by phone. Its fair to say I know better than half of the regulars in here, and I can vouch for them. The ones with the criticism are usually the same guys you hear crying out loud locally as well. Funny thing is, you dont see them help out much in here, though...

thanx bill

This response submitted by Bird on 1/1/05 at 5:43 PM. ( ) 68.79.118.166

I know you know me, if im grumpy well...... Anyway, how are ya? Good i hope. You are absolutely right sir, and these people in here could learn something if they would stop the critisisum, and get to the point of the matter which is taxidermy. This site is desighned to help, not belittle. Or it was a while back. Prosperity to all.

Bird

I especially love the gutless wonders

This response submitted by George on 1/1/05 at 8:02 PM. ( ) 64.12.116.135

Now when you want to find out how really stupid some of the jerks we deal with are, just scroll up to read "tryint to live right". You'll wonder why natural selection hasn't already taken this clown. He sits and bad mouths "know it alls" yet he COMES HERE. God, I pray he doesn't have children. He should be tatooed with "NB" on his forehead so everyone knows he's a "non-breeder".

I like the treatment here

This response submitted by Bradlee on 1/1/05 at 9:33 PM. ( ) 12.215.49.73

If not for these folks here , I would have been one of those looky people that demand a straight answer when it was already covered in the archives . I learned to do my homework and research even if just what has been listed and already answered here way back to 1998 or so . Never judge before the sentance ! Bradlee

Ive met some fun folks here...

This response submitted by Bill Yox on 1/2/05 at 12:55 AM. ( ) 67.138.12.158

After having a "go-'round" with them even! I guess its the folks with a sense of humor, and at least some common sense. Ive had emails over the years from people I havent yet met, and come to think of it, they were mostly from here. I guess we havent pissed everyone off yet!

Get A back bone

This response submitted by Murphy on 1/2/05 at 3:15 PM. ( ) 216.166.183.50

So when did it become rude to yell at someone your trying to help. When your boss or drill sergent yells at you you listen and take his advice. they do that because they know more than you do and want to help you.
If you cant take that kind of advice. you work for the gov. or by yourself. not in the real world. There's goes my first resolution. to be more understand. sorry HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL
