freezer burn

I finished fleshing a coon hide that had been froze last night. There a a couple of spots that were dehydrated or burned,is there a difference? Should I soak the hide in cold water to try to get these sections better or just go ahead and salt as is. I'm thinking I should soak the hide, then wash the hide with Dawn, wring out out and hang in front of a couple of fans until dry; then I'd salt. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks. Chuck

Just go ahead and salt it.

the main ingredient in bacterial growth is moisture. They need it to survive. The spots you mentioned are already dry so just go ahead and salt it. Then when you are ready you can rehydrate and those spots should rehydrate fine. Then proceed with your pickle or whatever else you plan on doing with it.
