I was just wondering if the mini fleshers are worth the money that you spend on it including the blades or should i just do it by hand?

I bought an air powered one when I first started out . And I thought it was the beast thing since soft butter . Then as my buisness grew I bought a round knife and will never use that mini again . do your self a favor and call Van Dykes and order ther Dacota iv . it is only going to cost you anouther $150.00 but it is the only one you will ever need . This thing shaves the hide the way it is ment to be done, The air powered one leavs a verry rough and uneaven finish . I can do a hide with a round Knife in half the time and it is done right.

Both

Jeff, I have both. I got quite proficient with the mini flesher. I can do around the eyes nose and lips rather quickly, then I do the rest on the round knife. At first the mini flesher was akward, but once I got the hang of it, I save a lot of time on the face and even the ears. Good luck!

It does depend on...

HI, It depends on 1)How many heads you are planning on doing a year. If you are only doing say seven or so mostly for yourself and friends, I would probably go ahead and buy it. 2) If you need a good air compressor, buy the mini-flesher. Believe me, you will need a very expensive and large compressor to run this thing. The mini-flesher uses a TON of air. I have a 5 H.P. compressor with a 27 gallon tank and this compressor barely, and I mean barely, keeps up keeps up with the Mini-flesher. I would say it would take a
7 H.P. compressor with a 40 gallon tank to begin to adequately run the Mini-flesher. 3) if you are planning on getting into taxidermy for the long haul, buy the round knife shaver. By the time you spend $200 for the Mini-flesher and another $350 for an adequate compressor, you might as well go ahead and buy the round knife shaver.
I am speaking from experience because I have a Mini-flesher. It does a nice job but next year I am planning on buying a round knife flesher. Hope this can help.
