I have a customer that brought me a nice set of freeze dried Axis antlers for a antler mount but the other taxidermist didn't remove the skin/hair from the skull cap.What is the best way to rehydrate the skull cap to remove the hair without damaging the velvet?

cut if off. I doubt you want to soak the bases of these in any kind of solution for the time it would take to rehydrate the scalp. Score around the antler bases and pry the skin off with a srewdriver and hammer.
