Rabbit Slippage

Couldn't find much in the archives. Have a jack rabbit I thought was very fresh. Only in the freezer a week. Defrosted to skin and it seems to be slipping where it's been "bruised". Is this common, generally or just with rabbits? Anyone have any info on this? Guess I'll mount it laying down!

Happened to me a few times too.

I do a lot of jacks and if I don't handle them really carefully I find two or three thumb-sized areas of slippage that I have to do a "comb-over" on in order to hide. I have always chalked it up to my critters being from the Sonoran Desert and having thin skin and delicate folicles. I think the slightest rise in temperature from handling the skins too much during prep will make it worse. I'd be interested to know if anyone else has this happened, what precautions do they take to avoid it and is it something that is fairly common and expected to accure.
