Best, is what works for you that you like to use? I like Potters clay for general purposes and critter clay for the eyes because of the low shrinkage. I like 2 part epoxies for the face and ears and Buckeye hide paste for the rest. Glues that I have tried and did not like, I find many people here love to use them. That is why they make many kinds, so you and I have choices. All glues work. You starting out may want to try a hide paste on the whole deer before you try the epoxies. Some epoxy sets up quite quickly, and if you are not fast, you could get stuck real fast.
Many people use dextrine glue and it works.
Many people plain old clay and make it work well.
So there is not a best, if I tell you the BEST is clay type epoxy for setting eyes and Epo-Grip 2 part hide paste, you will not get the same results.
Just look at the words about Krowtann, George dont like it and I do!
Several others like Krowtann also, but George who has never tried it says its bad!
Best is subjective, I think you as a beginner should use the basic stuff. Its going to give you more time to work i.e. taxi the skin around on the form.
You need a glue that is going to take several days to setup, and you need a regular clay that is going to take time to setup.
So slow working glue and clay is the best for you at this time.

I like using Archie Bray clay from my home state Montana. No shrinkage and nice to work with. For hide paste I use research hide paste or Buckeye Supreme and have excellent results. Just search the clay on the net and you will find it. Good Luck and have some fun!
