Frozen bears in the freezer not worth anything to me.
BEars are a very tough animal to work with. I would not want them if they have not been fleshed, and salted at least one time. They could rot while you thaw them out. The bacteria on the skin may even be decomposing the skin while in the freezer.
If the skin is even a little damp, the process is going to be even faster.
You probabbly do not know the condition of the hide when the bear was killed, and how it was taken care of, or how long the hide was left on the bear and if the hide was allowed ot cool before throughing the hide into the frezer. If there was warm pockets in the hide when it was put into the freezer, the hair will insulate the hide and allow the skin to rot in the freezer till it cooled. this can take several days.
I would not want them.
If the hides were in prime shape. and taken care of proberly, they would be worth up to around $200 each. That is what I would ofer if I had a gaurantee they would be fine. That would be if I knew the guy and how he took care of the skins.
A hundred bucks sounds better for a bear this size. It really ISN'T a big bear and since there's no prep work, that'd be what I offer.
As far as frozen bears, I get them that way all the time and they don't cause any significant problems as far as I'm concerned. I thaw them and as they thaw, I keep making sure that the cold spots are atop the hide until I can work with all of it. Of course, the head is last to thaw, but the ears, where slippage can be a problem, is always faster. That's why I keep the head atop and I cover it with a plastic tarp. DON'T bag it in plastic, just cover it so it keeps the air underneath refrigerated somewhat.
.....Than $50 each. Possibly less. Unless you know exactly when the bear was killed so you can determine the primeness of the skin, I wouldn't buy them without being able to check them out. On a really good prime spring bear I "might" go a bit higher. 200 pound bear are normally under 5 foot.
I usually pay on average of $35.00 each for green skins and thats if I skin them so I know what condition they are in.Hunter skinned rug cuts are 95% of the time skinned wrong and requires a lot of repair work.On a 200 pounder with a gaurentee of being ok I'd probably offer $50.00 too.
