Can someone tell me the trick to skkinning out the tail of a small mammal. I get it halfway off and then the tail breaks. Is it best to do it when the animal is fresh. if it is frozen how do you do it after it is thawed?

Mac get yourself a tail stripper. Look in any of the supply catalogs. They are well worth their price.

you can use 2 pencils or similar. skin tail down a little ways, one peice on top of tail bone the other on the bottom. as you pull gently & steady, sqeeze at the same time. ive used 2 pieces of wood, screw drivers, ect. whatever is handy at the time. fox & coyote are the easiest for me. fisher you have to skin down a little ways first. hope this helps.

I make my own from two pieces of 1x2 . Tape them together and drill different sized holes straight through the seam in the middle .Total cost is almost always free from scrap . bradlee
