Submitted by fishman on 2/17/05 at 2:21 PM. ( ) 66.82.9.57

I need to order some needle(s) and thread to sew up a life size bobcat. Never done any sewing and need some recommendations on which kind of needles and thread to order for this type of work. Thanks.

I like a 2" needle with a "3 sided" point. Any strong dark colored thread should work.

I like his needle sugestion also, but for thread I use dental floss! It is strong, waxed, and thin.. Works well for me.

Probably cheaper than floss as well. I buy it in 5000 yard spools of 14 pound and 30 pound for big animals. Neutral colored, won't rot, won't stretch.

Where do you buy 'Fireline' thread?

It is waxed plus you can seperate it as small as you need it. Strong too.

Another nice thing about Fireline is that it is not limp like regular thread. It has a stiffness to it. Very nice in keeping it up out of the hair and feathers when you are sewing. One word of caution. Fireline will cut your fingers if you pull tight with a bare finger. Just put a wrap of electical tape around the finger you normally snug your stitches up with. I haven't used any other thread for sewing since I started using it, except short haired facial work where monofilament is still king.
