WHAT ARE MY CHANCES?

Submitted by MIKE on 2/18/05 at 8:27 PM. ( ) 205.188.113.153

Let's be honest..... For the last 8 years I have been doing taxidermy as a hobby. For the last few years friends and family have told me that I should take the PA taxidermy test to allow me to do work for them. They believe my work is up there with the other taxidermists out there. I have no schooling or never attended any workshops. I have learned from videos and trial and error. LOTS OF THAT HA HA HA HA . I already have my 5 required mounts needed for the test and just sent for an application. Please be honest and anyone who can relate to my issue to my feelings of doubt due to the fact that I have not attended any schooling or paid my dues to the art. Please help me in making this dream of mine hopefully coming true.

What are your chances if you DON'T take the test?

Take the test why wait?

The sooner you take it the faster you can charge people for your art.

Art:
The human cause reproduction of things found in nature and what your eye can see.

Do the exam

Do you think you will be the only person to ever fail? Pass or fail, it will be a big, big learning experience. And if your work meets the grade, you will pass. If not, you will learn what you need to work on. Improve and take the test until you pass. Have courage, the Game Commission needs every $100 per year license it can sell.

you have probably learned more in 8 yrs of trial and error than you could learn in 8 wks of school, artistic ability is not learned in a few short wks. it is a god given talent, some of us have it some of us dont, step up to the plate and take a swing, join the pta! the convention is in march, the examining board will be on hand to answere ?s you may have, many good seminars and a very good competition, contrary to what you may hear the test is not that difficult, study your game laws, the pa taxidermy handbook and take good clean correct specimens and you will pass good luck

got to try it

youll never know unless you try.its not so bad.im sure theyll find something they dont like with every mount cuz they normally do.theyll give you advice and tell you what they like and what they dont like. then theyll send you a letter.the written part is pretty much common knowledge but you better brush up on the federal bird laws.if you have to take it again all you have to re-do is what they didnt like.keep after it and good luck !

Do it

Don't let your dream die by fear. $100 a year for license in PA. I pay $180.00 a year in Washington.

Life's regrets

Most times life's biggest regrets are the chances we didn't take. Some of the worst words you can say to yourself when you get older are " i wish I would have....". Go for it, and the very best of luck to you!
