once my deer cape is tanned is it bad if it dries out before the mounting procedure?

Ryan, The general answer to your question is no. Commercial tanners tan and dry thousands of capes each year. There is the drawback of having to rehydrate the cape to mount it as well as the thin epidermis aroung the eyes which can be damaged from drying. Most who do wet tan freeze the cape to store it and that is by far my preference. Enjoy, Aaron H.
Aaron is correct. Drying out then haveing to rehydrate is a pain, although I get my elk capes dry tanned (not enough freezer space). I do get all my deer capes wet tanned and freeze when storing. They fold and compact well and you can get a lot of capes in the freezer.
