Will the alum tans last as long as DP and if done correctly about how long should each last?
Thanks, John

Neither are good for rugs or garments, alum will dry rot and rip or fall apart, and DP dries as hard as a little rock.
If you are gluing the skin completely to a form, either method (neither being a tan) is OK but with the alum tan at least you can use some of the "tanned skin only" hide pastes. With DP you are limited in your choice of hide pastes.
Most commercial tanneries use alum for their method of "tanning".
Try using a 50%aluminum sulfate /40%borax/10%talcom . let me know the results you get.I can tell you now.as a simple homemade Dp.it works awesome. But you be the judge. As far as hide paste goes for a Dp. buckeye is by far the dp choice for the money.
