DP question for George

George I've heard you express your opinions for using DP on small game. I use it on my small game mounts as well with great success, I even use it on all my deer mounts and have had very little problems with those. The only problem I have is deciding which one to use. I've ordered it from 2 different suppliers, WASCO and Van Dyke's. Although I like the penetration I get with Van Dyke's DP (it's a real fine powder) it makes a real mess, on the other hand WASCO's DP is real course (hardly any dust) but I've worried about the penetration factor. I always cover the entire hide and rub it in real good but just don't know if the course is as effective. Do you like the fine or course and is there a better DP than these types? Thanks for your time!

BUT I brag about being honest to a fault and I'll apologize to our host WASCO for not endorsing their brand. I've used them all and agree with you. The Van Dykes has excess talc in it and it's VERY fine. That makes it very harsh on both the animal and my skin. All the others seem too coarse. For the last 25 to 30 years I've only used one brand of DP and that's Bess Maid from Touchstone. It has low talc, high borax, and some moth crystals. Though I always wear rubber gloves, it's still not as harsh or as dust prone as the others to my breathing. I use it in my denatured alcohol when I make a fish cure and it works great there too. Now that's my PERSONAL OPINION.

Thanks Alot !
