a quick, easy way to preserve a hide. Flesh the hide down and just rub the powder into the flesh side, then freeze or mount. works pretty well with small game hides up to deer. It came be purchased at about any taxidermy supply store. Usually, tanned hides hold up better than dry preserved hides do. I've used both and, to be honest with you, can't tell that much of a difference. It will dry very stiff and you have to keep an eye on the hide while it dries to make adjustments as needed (as you will with anything else) Good Luck.

I do it. I flesh the hide about 90%. I then wash it in a solution of lysol and dawn. Then towel dry the cape and finish fleshing using 20 mule team borax to help with grip etc. Then I use DP on the ears and do the bondo method. If Im going to mount it at that time I rub KINGS dp into the entire cape and mount asap. If I want to mount it the next day I refrigerate the cape without the DP and only apply the dp just before mounting. I just mounted my 88th deer using this method and have had hair slip one time and Im convinced it was caused by improper field care. Use a good two part epoxy and get the eyes very thin and shrinkage shouldnt be a problem. Also dont use a form thats to large. It is what it is. Hope this helps.
