Epo/grip Adhesive

I had tanned a cape with EZ100 and went through the whole process after oiling I put the cape in the freezer. About 3 weeks later, took cape out of the freezer to defrost, then I fleshed totally one more time then I mounted the cape and used Epo/grip Adhesive with the ear liners (cartlige was removed) after drying I had a lot of drumming it was not a tight fit I just wonder why this happened?

When you are looking at the mount it is not really that noticable and one other question: Would you tell the customer or not?

Any suggestions on why this happened would be appreciated.

Thanks

Did you relieve the ridges of the inner ear skin?

Did you clean both the earliner and ear skin with acetone or lacquer thinner before mounting the ears?

Now you say the earliners were the right size.

Somehow I am doubting that, The earliners should be a big smaller than the ear. You should have 1/8 to 3/16th extra skin.

The ear skin will stack onto the earliner just like the cape on the deer.

If the earliner is the right size dextrine will hold it without drumming.

Had it been the right size you would not have a lot of drumming.

Maybe you are right about the size of the earliner and I will have to be more careful with that, but it is ok to flesh after oiling?

Also would you tell the customer about the drumming, if you thought that they would not be able to tell the difference?

Thanks
John

I wouldn't tell him because...

..I wouldn't let it go out drummed. You can rehydrate those ears with a wet towel wrapped in plastic freezer wrap. Use the Epo-Grip injectable, inject inside the ear, card heavily, and then let dry completely.

epoxy

In one sense epoxy is a lot like bondo!

That is, when it starts to warm you better have it in place and then leave it alone until its cooled!
Fiddling with it while its in that "gel" state will break the skin loose from the glue!

If your earskin and liner were cleaned with acetone, your earliner was properly sized, and you still had drumming, this could be the problem. The only thing I do after getting my skin positioned is to check for air bubbles, poke them with a pin and work the air out where it is instead of trying to work it out the bottom- its faster and requires less movement of the skin.

Nope fix it.

You can even wet it back and split the skin where the hair is lacking, work your epoxy into the proper places and let it set.
