hi everybody, was wondering how I should start tanning.
I have a goat skin, deer skin, coon skin, and rabbit skin I would like to tan, for wall hangings and such.I would like a relitively easy process and quick turnaround time with soft leather(hair on).
I basically know nothing about tanning.Ive only used DP before. could someone recomend a good kit for what I would like to do? I have been looking but every product claims its the best, and ive read too many arguments that go into technical terms, then i end up more confused than when i started.
any suggestions would be appreciated.

thanx squeeky

I Like Curatan. You can get a Curatan kit from Van Dykes Taxidermy. It it fairly inexpensive and if you are careful to not get any ont the hair, you wont have to tumble it.

I like the Lutan F

the lutan f kit is not a difficult one to use. the esults were good, my fox hide and deer hide made good wall hangings. this one requires alot of work in the breaking phase though, so I would make sure and tan one at a time. or you might get real tired of breaking hides.

what you need to make just a tanned skin is salt and alome. you scrape all the meat and fat off poure a mixture of salt and alome you just need about on cotainer of alome but alot of saltpoure it on and let it soke up the mouture and scrape it off. the repeat until skin is dry. Them rub it agenst something roughf to make is softer and darker add minl oil.
