Squirrel Tails

When you guys pull the tailbone out, do you let the skin turn inside out about half way until the bone slips out, or do you not let it do that, you just wrap your pointer finger around the skin at the base of the tail and let it slide out, not letting it turn inside out? I've tried doing it the latter way and I've had problems wit the tail ripping and the bone breaking. Just wondering how you're supposed to do it. Hope I did not confuse anybody. Thanks.

Skin it down enough to get your tail puller...

on it. That's about 1 inch. The tail puller bunches the tail up as you pull it off and once you get about halfway the tailbone slides right out.

Do you have a tail puller?

They have them at the supply companies. I usually skin the tail down about an inch and then put my calipers in around it squeeze the sides together against both sides of the tail and hold the calipers closed tight and pull against the skin. It will slip the bone right out of the tail skin.

Use a pair of pliers. They are fast and comfortable. For larger tails, Coyotes, deer, etc, use a large pair.
