About taxidermy education

Submitted by mother of young taxidermist on 3/2/05 at 1:51 PM. ( )

I have a child who is interested in taxidermy. I would like to know what I should do concerning taxidermy schools, seminars, videos, books, etc. She really is interested, and has been working with taxidermy for about a year and a half. Mostly I wondered about schools in Alabama that would train her to do the best she can.

I would have her join the Alabama Taxidermy Association and start there. They have a convention each year and seminars. Plus she will get hooked up with some of the best in the industry. Great place to start for a youngster.

Best School Around

One of the best schools I went to was the school of hard knocks. Trial and error can sometimes be the best teacher. As mentioned above, join associations and go to conventions. Buy her videos and books on whatever she is interested in. Have her visit this website, oh and give her plenty of support.

I started taxidermy about three years ago on books and video. Now I have a thirteen year old daughter who helps skin and mount all the game that comes in. Try working with her. It can be a very rewarding experience. Try'll and eror has always been my best teacher.
