Deer hairs are hollow and dry out after being tanned. They will break off with a lot of touching. Deer hides are best placed on a wall for show. A lot of people drape them over chairs and so on where people will sit on them, or lean against them. Not a good idea. Hang the hide up and don't mess with it.
Coyote
Most big game back hides (moose, caribou, deer, etc) will lose hair. Dont sweat it.
