Bite the bullet and order the form.
If you took the measurements, use them to order the form. you could feasibly (if the sizes were good)have the hides ready for mounting once the mannikins arrive. sooner or later, you will need to order the form.

even if I do it wont get here for a week and the opossum are defrosting now I need to know how is the best way to preserve them do I DP then freeze or freeze then DP.thnaks for trying.
why don't you salt the hides they will keep for a long time salted. Then do a do it yourself tan with one of the kits out there

Why did you thaw them if you knew this was happening? As for the DP, stay away from it if you're even thinking of tanning the animals. And never DP an animal that's not ready to go on the form. Dry Preservative is borax, alum, and talc. It dries and shrinks the hide within hours of application. Don't be mixing apples with oranges or you'll have serious problems.
right before you mount it. If you dp it before you freeze it, it will shrink while in the freezer. Dp is the last step before mounting. BP
I have decided to use krowtan 2000.
george will love ya
I really don't CARE who uses it. My only gripe past my personal opinions of alum was how DUMB the users seem to be and their inability to read the directions on the container. Lots of people think I'm dumb for relying on a paint on tan without pickling.
George
which paint on tan do you prefer and can shave the hide after tanning?
just curious
And I ALWAYS final shave after it's tanned.
That's TOUCH-UP shaving. I shave the hide pretty well during the fleshing procedures, but many times, the neck and muzzle still need a little dressing down. I prefer to do that right before mounting.
I have only mounted 4 deer now and I us Mckinzie liquid tan. What do yall think about it.
