SQUIRREL FORM TOO BIG

Submitted by Sue on 3/28/05 at 9:13 PM. ( newfhntr@direcway.com ) 66.82.9.14

I am in the process of mounting my first red squirrel and I measured before I skinned and the girth is a bit to large for the skin. I was wondering what I could do other than buying a new form. If I have to do that it is fine. This was my very first animal that I have skinned and was not sure on how well I was going to do. I did it with minimal holes I think I did a pretty good job with it. But now it does not fit and I am afraid that the hair migh slip if I try to stretch it. Could I possibly sand it down? Any suggestions would be great. I know now to order forms after the skinning process!

Thanks!

You can use sandpaper or a rasp to take off the girth.

sue, you should be fine, you'll find you have to alter forms quite a bit, might as well start now, now i'm no pro, or anything but you should be fine just sand, or if you need to remove a lot you can use a rasp to get your measurements close, then sand to finish, just be sure to take an even amount from both sides of the mannikin so it looks natural, there may be someone more experienced than myself who can help you better, just wanted to let you know all is not lost, good luck, Croc

Thanks! I will try to sand it down ad see what I get. I ordered from WASCO, I had the chance to pick the size and that was the reason I went with them. But measured before I skinned, will not do that again anytime soon.

Getting ready to go to the World Show out in IL, I will be there on Friday. I can't wait!

Thanks again..this is a great place!
