yester day I left my freshly mounted otter outside for an hour and when I got up this morning he had magets on him I coated him in borax will it work and is there any thing else that I could have done.

It should not have maggots on it if it was prepared properly. Never had that problem, so don't know what you'd do other than apply and insecticide of some type and seal in a plastic bag.
It don't take rocket sceince to figure out you dont set anything outside, what in the world would provoke you to set a new mount even an old mount outside.
Its probabley going to slip now. but borax aint going to help.
Wet it down with lacquer thinner.
ileft it to dry alittle with it being tanned i did not think it would matter.
I really don't understand how maggots would start on a tanned hide,but borax should stop them.Borax is a dessicant and should dry them out to where they can't survive.Spraying it down heavily with denatured alcohol in a spray bottle should work too.The alcohol should help dry it,kills bacteria and helps set the hair.
Fly eggs maybe? Just clean them off and let the mount dry inside.
