I hope I don't offend anyone by asking my question in this forum since I am not a taxidermist. I am in a club called FOSSILS and at the end of the year we make a lamp out of an animal femur for a FOSSIL of the year award. I was just given 3 buffalo femurs from a slaughter house and they still have some meat on them. What is the best way to clean off the meat? I have thought of burying them for a couple of months and let ants eat the meat. Will this work or is there a better way? I have until the fall to get the bones clean for the next step in the lamp process.
Thanks for any suggestions.

I would simply boil it off. Clean off most of it that you can with a knife, then throw it in a pot and cook it off. Hopefully you can find a pot that big. My only concern would be getting the morrow out. Not sure how you would do that. Perhaps someone with more experience will chime in here.
Drill one whole on each end of the bone. Drill just into the center, not clear through, then apply air pressure into one of the holes. Cover the other end with paper towels or something. Be sure to cover your eyes. I would then work as much borax into the bone as possible. Good luck with your FOSSIL.
Thanks for all the help. I'm glad I found the forum.
