I was trained to tan deer hides the following, flesh, salt, rehydrate, brush on Liquitan, and apply 30 mins later. What is everyones opinion on this meathod? I put alot of time into the final product so I dont want the hide to pull 10 years down the road. If I added pickeling to that process would that produce a sadisfactory result for a mount that will last 50 years? With birds, most people use borax for them. After the boraxing would a quick coat of Liquitan be good to tan it and not keep bugs away? Thanks.

Ask Lavalee, I'm too young.
HOWEVER, you system will last just as long as the mount does. Many things can destroy a mount in half a century and by that time, the quality of the work may be so far outdated it won't matter anyway. Why would a hide "pull" in 10 years? At one time, and not that long ago, pickling was the ONLY step in hide preservation. I don't pickle and I have some heads that are 25 years old that look as well(or as bad) as they did when they were done.
And bird skins and tanning are not synonymous. Borax on a bird skin will last just as long as your Liquitan and be a whole lot less messy. In fact, your boraxed birds will probably last LONGER than the Liquitan.
You and "Greg" seem to have split personalities. And what's with the multiple postings? One is sufficient.
Never use borax and a tan together. The borax may be use on the fur side of a tanned hide as A bug proof. But borax, and Tans work On opposite ends of the pH scale. So using them both May cause problems.
posted same question in 4 different catagories under 4 different names.
