Any thoughts for a beginner on using kits for first time mounts? I was on a website (McKenzie, I believe) and found some mounting kits which claimed to contain virtually everything one would need except some paint supplies. Just wondering if purchasing one would be a good idea or not.
Thanks for your help.

All of us in business have the necessary supplies, but we do many such mounts. If you're looking to do a "oner" or just to see if you'd like to do it, why not? You'll either love it and be hooked, or you'll hate it and think you've wasted your money and your time. Either way, it's a learning experience that only you can decide.
It is a good way to learn, a better way to learn is to buy a video on Fleshing, pickeling and tanning, then a video on mounting. THEN get the kit if you think that you can follow through. Many guys buy the kit, then come back here and cry for help and ask us how to finish it. Do the research first, because the kits are complete and have everything that you need to mount one, but you won't understand the directions unless you see and know, that you have a plan from start to finish, before you start.
I bought a deer mounting kit to mount my deer form this season and I thought it was a good learning experience and found I was hooked on taxidermy. the intrustions were easy to read and I learned a lot.
i started out with a kit for a squirrel, i got it from Van Dykes. i found the instructions very easy to follow and it came with everything i needed besides the knife, and the squirrel. i would recommend it.
