So is it ok to leave the ear cartlidge in, instead of using earliners?
Or should you ALWAYS take the cartlidge out?

take it out if you want to use earliners, leave it in if you want to use bonbo. You're choice. It is better to learn to do both ways of doing the ears. Sooner or later, you will need both skills depending on the animal you want to do.
Never leave the cartilage in the ears on anything larger than a squirrel! You're just asking for problems.
Got my information from a famous taxidermist that made a hog video, he bondo'ed one ear, and put an ear liner in the other to teach both methods. I believe he left the cartilage in the bondo side. Great video. I think his name was Rick Carter?
try some ear magic
you use it like the bondo method but in my opinion its much better
mix far a few seconds, add chopped fiberglass, invert the ear
spread it on the ear and invert back to the way it was
youll get less mess this way on the hair
now!
at this point you must have some good feferences
i have a assortment of pictures and a good pair of ear liners to look at
work the ear and when you feel the ear magic start to kick
put your final detail in the ear
the ear must be carded at this time and will remain flexible
for a few days unlike bondo which will be hard
dont let this panic you it will harden and will
not drum
resist putting it on to thick you can use about half what you would normally use on the bondo method
its works really well on those battle tears bucks get
on small tears you dont have to sew
it will not come apart
make sure to clean anything on the hair asap
good luck
But there's no need to add fiberglass chop to Ear Magic. It's filled with silk stands that do that work for you. What I particularly love about Ear Magic is the ability to pose that ear up to 6 hours after it's cured. With Bondo, it's hard as soon as it cures. With Ear Magic, you can bend and shape an ear for a couple hours afterwards. I especially like this on the cats where the tips of the ears are sort of bent upwards. You can't do that with Bondo very well.
thanks George! ill try it like that
i guess im still stuck on some old habits
wow! that will even take out more of the bulk
the ear will probably be closest to the thickness of a green ear as i can imagine
fantasic product
p.s. i finally got my email from Cindy
im officially a member of the NTA
thanks again George for all the input on the site!
your getting my vote!
I guess I will always take out the cartilage out!
