freezer--frost free or not

I'm going to buy a new freezer to keep capes, etc. in . I have heard that a frost-free freezer has the tendency to cause freezer burn. But, is the non frost-free freezer worth the extra trouble? Does it matter anyway? Anybody have an opinion on which to buy?

If you wrap your hides and birds....

properly, I guess it won't matter, HOWEVER, just the idea of a frost free cycle scares me. To be frost free, periodically the temperature in the freezer is brought above freezing to thaw the frost particles that form and then the fan sucks the moisture away to the drip pan underneath the compressor. That's why your ice cubes "dry up". So when I think about that effect on my hides, I stay with the old models.

Mike, frost free freezers work fine, but there are a couple things to remember.First, raise the temp in the freezer up to 15 degrees or so. There is no need for below zero temps .I have a walk-in freezer, and I run the temps at 12-15 degrees above zero, and it automatically defrosts twice a day.You won't have as much frost if you observe these tips.
Frost free freezers defrost by reversing the flow of gases through the system. The gas is hot, causing the frost to quickly melt. This cycle lasts only a couple minutes, and there is no appreciable rise in temp in the freezer. Walk-ins,such as the one I have, have a heater coil which melts the frost off the evaporator coil.
Hope this helps.

If in doubt vacume seal/I took out squirrels that have been in the freezer for 5 years not a single problem...
With the riseing cost of utilties and the excellent insulated freezers we have today Ill take the lower operating cost's and use the reusable vacume sealed bags and use the suggestion of 15 degrees instead of sub zero/./
