Carding Ears

Being new to taxidermy, I'm still trying to figure out detailed instruction on some of the finer points. My question is, could anybody give me good detail on some of the preferred methods of ear carding on animals from racoons to deer and antelope? Thanks in advance!

polymesh screen or cardboard

well basically its a backing of some sort
i use cardboard, foam, polymesh and a couple of others to help
hold the position of what ever it is i trying to keep shape
for example:

i use use ear magic in the ears of deer
it is a product that works a lot like the bondo method
but

the ear will remain flexible a lot longer even a day or two
so
i put a thin foam backing supported with polymesh you can get
from WASCO
i use a assortment of close pins ,giant paper clips to hold the ear
in place
hope this helps

Aluminum screen

I also use ear magic and find it works very well. I just did a whitetail mount last week and I bought some aluminum rolled screening at lowes for 5 bucks. I cut it to fit around the ear and used giant paper clips to attach. It worked very well. Dont use the fiberglass screening it is too flexable
