what do you do when there is an area about the size of a fifty cent piece and even bigger of missing scales. what should i do

take off scales from the backside and replace them, or mold some of the scales and cast them on the missing areas.

...Let it set up a half hour or so. Then come back with a modelling tool, wet it a bit and sculpt in the scales...
