coloring fom log

I just got the foam log for my mt lion and was wondering if anybody can tell me what is the best way to color it.Can i just stain it with wood stain or air brush it.If you have any other ideas let me know.Thanks.Nick

I failed to make one look good...

.... after trying several times. I ended up covering it with real bark that I peeled of of cedar trees. After selecting the section I wanted I cut and peeled it off the tree and left it in the deep freeze for a week or two to kill any bugs or bug eggs. I then trimmed and fitted the bark to the foam log and used hot glue to attach it. I added some of the small white colored cedar limbs here and there. I looks REAL!

Take the scratcher (WASCO sells it) and texture your log in the way the grain should run. Make sure you cover every square inch of the log with these scratches. Blow off excess dust. Paint with a FLAT interior white latex paint and allow to dry. THEN STAIN.
