is that borax will keep the color of the item being boiled. Sal-soda tends to whiten, in addition to removing meat. This can be a very beneficial thing...but use caution...you don't want to whiten antlers.

Sal Soda is Sodium Carbonate.
Borax is Sodium Borate.
Read all about these two in your taxidermy supply catalogs.

I may stand corrected on this one but I think that Arm and Hammers Super washing soda is Sodium Carbonate. I use it all the time and it works just as well as the Sal Soda.

Arm and Hammer washing soda is exactly the same thing as Sal-soda....I found only one store in my area that carries it. Had to do alot of calling around.


Sodium Carbonate

Stores that carry pool supplies should have sodium carbonate.

Simply heat sodium bicarbonate...plain ole baking soda...If your using it say to boil skulls....Sodium bicarbonate will form sodium carbonate.
