sorry should have been more specific w/ question on difference betweem sal soda and borax.what i need to know is sal soda an exceptable replacement for borax as a dry preserve.im doing my first turkey fan and i have some sodium carbonate left from a euro mount,can i use this instead of borax on the fat on the quills?

Sal-soda or sodium carbonate is used to change the ph in a pickle or tanning solutions. Some use it in boiling or simmering water while cleaning skulls. Borax would be what you would use on the turkey fan. You can use 20 mule team borax in a pinch, but you would be better off using a good dry preservative.
