Color of a bears mouth

Why is it that some taxidermists have so much pink on a bears mouth and lips and inside the nose. The bear I shot this year and every other year was black on the lips, and almost dark burgandy on the inner lips. What gives?

All the reference I have for bears shows a pinkish purple on the lips an inner mouth. I have seen taxidermists use natural flesh, to off white colours inside mouths. Go with what your reference tells you. Unless you have a pet bear and you can open it's mouth at will to see the colour.

True! if you look at ref. pix from live animals the color will be pinkish! when you kill a bear or any other animal for that matter they loose most of the blood in there mouth tounge and nose. hence they turn a darker color. (ever seen in the movies the dead people have blue or purple lips) It happens allmost instantly this is not somthing that happens over the course of two or three days. hope this clears things up! Cowboy! Good question! The black bears mouths usually come with some kind of bacteria, and the taste is actually on the more gamier side. As per the usuall pink mouths are tastier and have a much better feel. and if you have the need to put the pups lights out first, and the color turns you off, post mortem, try pink wax on the inside of the bear mouth. can't account for the stink 8 days later, but at least you keep your pink, partner.
