posts should be positive

i have noticed the posts and answers to posts have become downright mean as of late - everyone that post ?'s or ansers to ?'s is trying to help - it would be wise to listen to the golden rule when psoting - to paraphrase if it isn't positive or uplifting (or at least trying to help) why not keep it to yourself - this is not directed towards any one person

Terry, I understand your issue, HOWEVER

As an "artist", "professional", whatever, anytime you put your work out for public display, there are going to be some critics. Some not so nice, in fact. Look at the Broadway plays or fancy restaurants that get trashed by "critics". None of us relish the idea of having our work "trashed", but then how could we ever improve if we didn't hear both sides of the spectrum?

This is a FORUM and you're going to see both sides of that issue here. That's what makes each of us "artistic". Sometimes we actually do foster "ugly babies" and you're just going to have to toughen up your skin when someone actually blurt out that your kid should be eating bananas. It's not so much "personal" as it is the nature of the beast in the industry that we're apart of. When a person charges less than his peer, he'll rail to his customers that the other guy is ripping them off. Meanwhile, the other guy is telling his customers that they only get what they pay for if they come to you. Because you didn't hear it, doesn't mean it's not happening. At least in this past incident, you heard it and can either take that as a benchmark of civility, or an encouragement to get even better in the future. (Surprisingly, most of us DO get better as we go along. Sadly, I don't seem to be one of those, however. LOL)

a year or so ago I posted some deer pictures and asked for opinions. One person in particular pointed out several things that were wrong with my deer, mainly that my briskets were not lined up correctly. As a result, I have now made a conscious effort to make sure I have everything "where it's supposed to be" and continue to work on other things to improve. I used to do the ears with bondo, but have now gone to the extra effort to remove the ear cartilage and use earliners...more work? You bet but I can look at pictures of deer that I did before I changed to the earliners and think, wow...those stink. I agree with George, that if your work is out there to look at your gonna get some feedback, some positive, some not so positive, but if we take the criticism as constructive, we can only improve our work through it.
I have a link to my web site and can honestly say the deer on page one aren't as good as the ones on page two, mainly cause those were bondo ears and have now switched exclusively to earliners and would not go back.
Anyone is welcome to look at my website, I worked in a prison for five years, been divorced twice and have thick skin. LOL

Bobbie, George is correct; that when someone puts their work out for the public, we as the public are instilled to, an opinion on it and may just blurt that opinion out as we feel fit, but others look at your opinions and form one of you. I see a very myopic *, small person giving her opinion on a garage sale item to show the rest of us lowlifes how much she knows.
I think it was a very junior thing to do.

*.I thank George, for the new word in my vocabulary [Myopic; a lack of foresight or discernment : a narrow view of something]

we should not forget that constructive criticism doesn't give us the excused to mock and poke fun at others . sorry for any you may have recieved george, constructive criticism is meant to help, to teach, encourage, isn't that what this forum is about.

People be honest than let you go on thinking you've done a good job.
Its brutal, off putting and a confidence buster but you either give up or you work harder on the things pointed out and get better.
I posted a deer here a few yrs ago and only a few people were 'nice' enough to point out my flaws.
(lol - a trip to kiwi's sorted me out - thank you wayne & crystal)

I used to keep that 'thing' to remind me of how much better i am today.

You should give an honest opinion when asked for it. This however never allows you the opportunity to insult or demean anyone. If you are an ignorant or uneducated person it will be evident in your response.
This however doesn't mean you can't break some cookies when the occasion is right.
There is a difference.

a format for critiques that generally works well is:
start with something positive even if its a tiny thing
next, point out what is wrong with the piece and all the things you dislike, and finish up with some ideas about how to fix those things.

I feel like as long as a critique is helpful and constructive it dosnt matter how harsh it is, if its helping you get better be thankful for it!

that' right
