I live in louisiana and I am curious to what taxidermist are charging for lifesize mounts on bobcats and mammals as such. I charged one guy 300 for bobcat and he nearly flipped. I enjoy doing taxidermy but not enough to do it for free or just to break even.

personally i think mounting a bobcat for less than 600.00 is not worth it. i charge 675.00.
sorry but I am with Lee on this one. but not 675.00 I charge $450.00 for a L/S coon. (no cats) If you do good work than makempay! joe
those are slave wages your working for my friend! 2-3 hrs to skin flesh turn and salt properly, tannining + shipping to and fro, say 65.00 good eyes and form, earliners + shipping 110.00 4-5 hrs to mount, probably 1-2 hrs spent with the customer and ordering your supplies, now this dosnt include needles, thread , the cost of your tooling, reference and general shop costs ie: phone elec. heat , advertising and such. so to be generouse lets add another 35.00 and just say your real efficient and you spent 10 hrs total on your project you have a total of 210.00 in costs from 300.00 recieved for a total of 90.00 for your time divided by 10hrs = 9.00\hr. well do you have health insurance? kids? a mortgage? a car? see where im going? 750.00 + time and materials for any habibtat work is where you need to be minimum! you will burn out quickly in this trade if your doing it for nothing, if the area where you live cant support a good income relocate or find a new career. if you need to rush, use inferior supplies and do substandard work, just to make a quick buck your reputation will suffer and taxidermy will not be an enjoyable employment avenue, nothing compares to working for yourself takeing your time to recreate life from death and seeing a smile on a happy customers face, and then getting paid well for doing it. think about it!
I started out at a low price (i don't like cheap ) but I have mounted a few cats and am tired of working for nothing. IAm new and have done more deer than anything else I am proud of my work and have been complimented on my mounts by fellow taxidermists. People think we have an easy job. I do my own skinning, Fleshing and mounting. I put a lot of time into my work and try to produce the best quality I can.I say if you can find a cheaper price you go somewhere else. I know people who do work cheaper and I believe you get what you pay for.
if you post your email i will send a pic of a cat and habitat im working on tommorow yet, i have 16 hrs. and about 270.00 in materials into this project maybe 3-4 hrs to go, my price on this one $1950.00, you can do the math.
I agree we all need to get paid what we are worth. I charge 625.00 and would like to get more. Let's be realistic, not many people will pay 1950.00 for a bobcat mount.
please lets be realistic! how many hours do you get into a mount? your only 125 dollars off my basic price, add an open mouth, extensive form alteration, a large detailed diroma and well, you end up with a bill for 1950.+ 6% sales tax. PLEASE sell you time and effort into creating habitat work, or i can mount a closed mouth cat for 750 that lays on the rug, dosnt matter to me, i get paid either way. ill send you a pic, you quote me a price on what you would charge, now go back and read the post you responded to
im pretty ok with what i get paid, i figure on average about 37.00hr.
are you getting paid your worth? i take 4 wks vacation a yr. and have a decent fund for my childrens college ed. started, and i even manage to put some away for retirement!
