I took a couple of hides out for fleshing, after screwing up the first one,i got the second one right .I ran out of time and could not finish
so i rolled up the hide,Hair out and back to the frezer.Too top it off i lost my measuerments''Wife thrown them away''.This would be
my first whitetail mount and i was going to buy one of those kits, before investing a lot of money in it.So now i need the mesuearments.Should i buy some dry preserve,so when i take the hide out for measure i can preserv the hide and roll it back up and put it in the freezer? Or can i thaw ,get my measurements and re freez,or have i ruined the cape by freezing it with no preserving?
Thanks! for any Help Reloaderlen

Poor planning on your part plays no favorites when it comes to hide decomposition. Freezing once and thawing for measurements/fleshing and refreezing is already pushing it. Any more than that sets up the chance of bacteria working on the skin. If you don't have some Stop Rot, it might be prudent to get some now.
Put the measurements in a taxidermy logbook, even if it is you're project. If she throws that out, then you can throw her out. But then again, it is tough to remember two numbers.
Take your hide out and start it. Take your mesurements and send for your kit. Flesh it split the lips and so forth and salt it. your kit will only take a few days to arrive. hang it up and let it dry if you have it salted well. no problem.
