I have taken in two bisons here recently one is a rather small or should i say a young bull.one is a very very large bull the hide is about a inch and a half thick on top of the head and on the side of head it is about a inch thick or better. My question is how is the best way to flesh out the head it is so heavy it takes two people just to move it around.Took me 4 hours just to get the hide off the skull boy i hope i never get any more of these beast! They are a nightmare for sure.Any advice will be appreciated very much. By the way most of my mounts are deer, turkey, waterfowl, full body mammals etc. Thanks for your replies... ED

I'd pressure wash

I would take a pressure washer with a turbotip to it. That should help alot...you'll still have to shave once its pickled.

I shave them before I pickle them

I'd treat it just like I was sending it to a commercial tannery. Only difference is, I WOULD send it out. If you don't shave it green, neither the salt is going to penetrate nor the pickle is going to hold the pH. You have my sympathies regardless of what you do because hides like that truly beat a person up.
