Substituting mannikins

I have two juvenile groundhogs that I want to mount in a Diorama type set-up. the problem is that there are no commercial forms that I have found that fit their smaller size.

I have found some other types of rodents that come close to fitting, but might need some "minor" alterations to make a good fit.

Does this seem like a good route to follow, simply substitute a different rodent form of appropriate size? Or am I almost stuck with making my own mannikin, using whichever method I prefer?

You might want to consider purchasing a video on carcass casting. And making your own forms. This way the forms will be exact to what you're mounting and you can take out all the guess work. Just a thought.

I've used other forms

Sometimes the praire dog forms or the marmot forms will match up quite well, but it would still be wise to do as Coyote says just in case they don't fit or the pose isn't what you're looking for. Carcass casting is really quite simple.

A groundhog is a marmot! And... a marmot is a woodchuck, And... a woodchuck is a groundhog. Just depends if you live in the south, the west, or in Delaware. Peace ~ Sam

Sam, I know it's going to surprise you, but I knew that

HOWEVER, rock chucks are often smaller than the fat ground hogs and some of the marmot forms fit groundhog kits quite well.

Thanks Guys
