tanning

I tanned a deer hide using liqua tan. the tanning agent has been on the hide for about 9 days. I have worked it in several times in those 9 days. I have broken the hide a few times to make it more plyable. I want to wash the tanning agent off the hair. Can I use a bath with dawn soap in it? then just rinse it?

You may wash the tan out. Use oderless paint thinner to clean off the splash that is on the hair only! Joe

Wash it

You can wash it with Pert shampoo. You won't wash the tan like JR said. The only way that will happen if you use a very harsh detergent and you use boiling water!
Certain tans will wash out like Alum tans and some others but in most part Liqua-tan isn't going wash out that easily.
Now I wash the hair twice and then rinse it well. From there I place it in the clothes dryer (SET ON COOL) with plenty of old towels in it. Tumble for about 15-20 minutes take out and mount.

sorry I thought it was a flat skin

if its going to be mounted you can wash is in shampoo and Frank is right liqua tan does not wash out that easy. but if its a flat skin you will wash off the oil and the skin will become stiff like card board. the oderless paint thinner is for splash only! and it works verry well. Joe
