I had a customer call for the price of mounting a mole. I have never even seen one. I know they are very small in size, so would it just be easier to freeze dry? Thanks, Scott

I would freeze dry it. I would also charge $250 or more for small animals like that.They usually change their mind after that. Some people think just because it's small you should be charging 20-25 bucks for something like that.

I mounted one just a few weeks ago. Odd little creatures. Here's an overview -- I just made one cut from under the chin to the anus. I then skinned it completely through that incision. I pulled the tail without making any cut. (make sure you check out the teeth, wicked looking things) I carved a body out of some foam using the carcus body for reference. I fleshed the skin carefully and then used dry preservative. I super glued the mouth in place. I stuffed clay in the tail and feet areas. I sewed the incision closed. By the way, I did curve the body a bit to give it some life. (Not much you can really do to them as far as positioning.) All of the skinning and mounting was done with 2X magnification, a hat like thing with lenses purchased from McKenzie. After drying, some painting was done on the feet, tail, mouth and nose. Also, as a side note, I did check local laws and I also talked to the Feds -- no problem. If you have any questions email me. My total mounting time was around 3.5 hours.

In some states there are laws against having little things like moles. You may need a scientific collectors permit. To collect them in Maine, you need a hunting license. Strange!
