Owls seldom have fat on their skins and cleaning them is relatively easy. Get the Research Catalog and find the parts.
If you want to show the bird off to reveal it's namesake, you're going to have to open those wings. I use the real skull and make an incision up the back of the head. The last one I did, I had it alighting on a perch so that both wings were almost fully opened.
Want to practice on another bird before you tackle your owl. A ringneck comes to mind..
Back in the "day" I used to save the eye cartilage on owls in order to retain the shape of the face. They're kind of shaped like a mini-space capsule(John Glenn type)(Darn I'm aging myself...) It was quite messy to pop the eyes out and drain the vitreous, lenses and irises...One would probably rebuild these structures with sculpall now a days...or do the eyes come with the structures?
LMAO I didn't know there were OTHERS who'd survived this long.
Yep, I definately had flashbacks when I was typing that.
George, slight delay in working on the owl, (broken wrist) but it is still in the deep freeze. Now, about the Research Catalog, what is the name? where can I find one? I'm quite rural and things arrive by internet purchase and US mail.
Thanks for your advice, I will certainly put all second hand (passing on)experience to good use.
