fox cub skinning

Tonite I found a fox cub that had been recently hit and killed by a car (by recently I mean rigor mortis had not yet set in, the body was still warm) it was dark so all I could do was put the body in a garbage bag (with gloves of course) and triple bag it and put it in the freezer, it was too dark to skin it there. The only problem is that its belly had been torn open a bit and some of it's intestines were out, otherwise it was in good condition. is it still possible for me to skin this? or should I just chuck it out? should I have frozen it?
I don't ever pick up roadkill but it was a beautiful little fox and I couldnt pass it up.
what should I do?
thanks
-E

skinning a road kill

E, Sure you can skin it, if the tear is very small you can ignor it and skin as you would if it were perfect and sew the damage up later. If the tear is large, just skin the belly on out where it's ripped and continue to skin out the rest. You don't say what you would do with the skin but it could be mounted if it's not spoiled, just have to pose to best advantage as hair is thin on the little guys. As for tripple bagging in plastic, the more plastic you put over a hot dead critter the more insulated you make it which can make the skin spoil. Next time I would lay it in the refrigerator or freezer on newspaper to cool out before bagging-better yet, skin it before freezing. Wear those rubber gloves when you skin that fox-enjoy, Aaron H.

Hello,
I have wanted a fox taxidermy mount, but I did not want to have an amimal killed for my decoration. If you do not intend to use this carcass yourself, would you consider selling it?
