I saw posts below about salt, but the reply area wasn't available.
I'm new to this, where should I start looking for large quantities of salt, 50# bags and such? The 2 pound boxes at the grocery are only about $1.40, but I'll end up having to buy a bunch of those.

Tractor Supply or other feed stores will carry salt in bult bags. Ask for mixing salt.
The one pound boxes are about 40 cents there. BUT if you go back to the pickling sections or maybe at the same shelf where salt and sugar are marketed, you can often find 25 pound bags of it. A couple weeks back, our local Food Lion had 25 pound bags for $3.85. This is fine ground salt and though cattle food salt will work, the refined salt is much more aggressive in removing the moisture simply because it penetrates better and can reach nooks and crannies that coarse salt can't.
Look in the Phone Book for institutional food supplies, or restaurant food suppliers. They always have salt in #25 bags, and some time #50. I pay exactly the same as George $3.85 for #25. another thing to consider about livestock feed salt. It is dirty. Pour a pound of it in 5 gallons of water, and look at the water. Yuck!
Sams club is another place to find #25 salt
I buy a stock mixing salt that's as clean as anything you will buy in the grocery store. #50 for $4.40 It's EXACTLY the same texture as table salt.
I have been ordering my salt threw a taxidermy suppy catolog but shipping costs are 5x the price of the salt. Can a person use regular table salt or does it need to be non iodized as I have read .I called my local co-op about bulk (50LB BAGS)but they do not know if it,s iodized or not.Iknow it has to be fine ground ,not course any hrlp would be gteat thanks
The largest salt containers at the grocery stores around here, that I've found at least, are 2#. There is a Sam's not far off, I'll check there (hate the crowds there though).
Now that I think of it, we used to use 100# bags of food grade salt at the meat packing plant I worked at. Even though it's many miles away now I'll give them a call too.
