I'm using a Paasche H5 and Hydro-mist paint.
I've had no problem finishing deer, coyotes, etc., but
I can't get a crisp line or spot when doing fine detail
work on fish and birds.
I keep getting "splatter". I've played with the air pressure
and even made sure the paint is the right consistancy.
What am I doing wrong?

The H-5 tip is for wide angle spraying. You should never go above an H-3 for your detail work. If you're using thinned lacquer with a retarder, you may get away with the H-1, but it will clog if you use water based paints. Stick with the H-3.
I am about to prove that this post belonged in the Beginner section.
I thought H5 was the model. I have the HS5 that includes an H-1, 3 & 5 tip.
So, to clarify my problem.......I have been using the H-1 tip but didn't have any luck at low pressure. It kept clogging like you said! I am going to switch to the H-3 and see what happens. From your advice, I'm sure I will be much more satisfied!
Thanks George,
Scott
That Passche really is not designed for fine detail work. It's ok but for some detail but there's so much better brushes out there.
How can you say that and keep a straight face. The Paasche may not do the detail work YOU like to do, but for 99% of us, it gets the job done quite well. Now if I were wanting to paint with inks or dyes, I'd certainly go to a high end brush, but the chemical and physical properties of water based paint ain't gonna do a whole lot more though one of those high dollar brushes. I keep telling you, you fish guys are just weird. LOL
......That you're looking for with the brush you're using PERIOD! The H brush never was a detail brush and it CAN NOT be made to do details. It's fine for general work, but to do the fine painting on fish you will need a BETTER brush.
Im taking airbrush classes at an art school. My teacher specialize's in photo realism. He can take a glance at you and paint your picture. you have to really study to make sure it's not a picture. he uses paasche 99% of the time. Trust me you have never seen fine detail to you see this man use an airbrush!
