And also whats the difference between a dry and wet tan. Any replies would be apprcieated. Thanks Brian Also should the capes be fleshed or sent right off the deer with out no prep work.

Call the tannery and ask.

Checking the archives most capes are shipped once dry, but still soft enough to rollup.

DRY

MOST tanneries only take hides that are fleshed properly, turned, and salted. And they have to be DRY. If you send them a cape that is not fully dry then they may dry them on their racks and charge you extra.

Dry tan means the cape comes back dry like leather. You will have to hydrate them to mount them. A wet tan comes back wet, and you have to either mount them right away, or freeze them until ready to use.

This will give you a general guideline of the prep that is needed prior to shipping. http://www.thewildlifegallery.com/downloads/hide_prep_care.pdf
