Hello everyone, this is my first post. I have just mounted my first bobcat. I am very much a beginner. I have only mounted two deer heads besides the bobcat. The bobcat turned out very well. My question is, "can anyone advise on what color schemes they use for the painting of the nose.?" I use the hydro-mist paints. All help is appreciated. Thanks, Waylan

paint the nose light orange, then a very fine outline of black. bob m.
Bob, thanks for the info. I guess my question should have been more in depth of what I need. I know its a light orange but if I am going to order it from the supply house, exactly what color from the hydro -mist line do I order. Thanks, Waylan
i don't use hydro=mist paint's,but orangr is orange. just tone it down or up according to what you see in your refference pictures. don't know what else to tell you. refference is your best guide. bob m.
I will be more specific than the other bob...
For the nose pad you will need Off White (HM-701), Natural Flesh (HM-102), Burnt Sienna (HM-202), and Dark Brown (HM-203). They are applied in that order, getting lighter application the darker the color is. Hope that helps,
Bob Mead
Bob and Bob,
You guys are great. Thank you very much, that info is exaclty what I was looking for. It seems I have found a very good site to come to. I have learned a lot just by reading all the forums. It's people like you that take the time to help us beginners that makes this profession what it is today. My dad is a retired taxidermist of 20 years and he said that when he was coming up it was like pulling teeth to get people to share thier secrets. Once again, thanks. Waylan
go to Jonas and order cat nose - thats a color
Thanks for the info Terry. I'll look it up.
I really like the premixed colors from Jonas. They are great, I used "deer ear" for the ears, "septum pink" for the nose, "dark brown" around the eyes and "semi-gloss black" on the nose. They must have done a lot of experimenting because the colors seem to be right on for most deer and elk I do.
Drew, thanks for the tip. I purchased all those colors from Jonas today.
