Any non- iodized salt. Rock salt is too corse.
If you go to a co-op or feed mill and ask this question; "I would like 2 bags of "White Salt" please." You will get exactly 100 pounds of the correct salt for tanning work. Your total will come to about $10.00. Joe
Where I go to get my salt it is called fine mixing salt not the feed salt. They are two different animals. All stock salt is non iodized.
....To see what they have. If it "looks" like table salt, it's the right stuff.
...carries "Ranch House Feed Salt" that we use for hide salting and tanning solutions.
some salts are iodized - even in feed salts. Do not used iodized salt in tanning! Old Fart is mostly correct - if it looks like table salt (consistency) it is good to use - but iodized salt is also white and you have to read the label to make sure you get the right one.
