I was hoping someone here could help - haven't found a good answer on any searches and it's been a *long* time since I've done this stuff. My wife (science teacher) found a partially skeletonized possum in our yard and wanted the skull for her class. We've now got a skeleton that's half covered with mummified tissue (she wanted to see what would happen if we just left it alone, so no misting allowed to help things along). Is it past the point where maceration would help me get this dried tissue off, or should I just simmer it awhile and try not to peel off too much bone while I cut away the tissue? Any other thoughts or resources I should check on cleaning this skull for preservation? Thanks!

You should have it cleaned with bettles.
Vince,
JEM is correct, beetle cleaning is the best method if you are interested in good long-term results. Our studio skull cleaning division can do it. Email me if you are interested. Thanks-
